Harry and Ida’s Meat Supply, 189 Avenue A, New York, NY
Okay, this one is not in North Jersey but if you take a run into the East Village, you won’t be disappointed by the best pastrami sandwich you’ve ever had. Harry and Ida’s cures and smokes its pastrami in-house. Think of it as artisanal pastrami. Their sandwich is made with pastrami that looks like a Texas brisket style. Sister and brother owners Julie and Will Horowitz only use fatty Creekstone deckles, which they smoke over oak and maple. They steam the meat, slice it by hand, and use it to build a herculean half-pound sandwich in a long Pain D'Avignon Po' Boy roll. The toppings are fragrant pickled dill and cucumber kraut. A culinary experience that won’t disappoint.
